About the Show

Food Processing Expo 2024 will be held at the brand-new SAFE Credit Union Convention Center (formerly the Sacramento Convention Center), Tuesday, February 13 – Wednesday, February 14, 2024! The Expo attracts a wide variety of attendees, including CLFP food processor members and board members, non-member food processors, those with ideas for new food products, university personnel and students, food processing industry vendors, suppliers, and more.

The Expo offers food processors the opportunity to meet and re-establish connections with existing vendors, make new connections, and learn about the latest products and services available to the food processing industry. Topical educational opportunities are offered at the Expo, including a pre-Expo workshop. In addition, multiple educational seminars will be held on the trade show floor, along with several networking opportunities.

Since 1905, the California League of Food Producers has been an advocate and the voice for California's food-producing industry. CLFP represents the interests of processors of fruits, vegetables, nuts, dairy products, beverages, and specialty products throughout California. CLFP works to help ensure a favorable and profitable business environment for its members and the entire food-producing industry. Jeff Butler will present “Winning the Talent War” to teach attendees how to attract and retain the best talent. He will share strategies and concepts that will help you find talented employees that are skilled in their fields, and retain them, keeping them with you for longer periods of time.
Butler is the author of two books – The Authentic Workplace and The Key to the New You – and has written more than 100 articles on workplace dynamics. His insights have been featured in dozens of media outlets such as Forbes and HR News. You can find his TEDx talks about psychology here and here.
Butler has studied and mapped out the employee lifecycle which includes hiring, managing, and retaining employees and cover important areas where companies lose their talent: mistakes in the recruitment process and not changing managing styles according to a changing workplace.
You will learn about the best practices for recruitment, including screening employees for maximum future performance, and you will learn techniques to spot effective succession planning.

More importantly than simply having each program though, is ensuring they are adequate and effective at achieving their purpose(s). In this short course we will focus on the key elements to an effective EMP.

March Madness captures the attention of millions of fans each year; however, the tourney may lead to worker productivity problems and even legal liability for employers. Betting pools at work are common practice, and many employers turn a a blind eye figuring that they maintain morale and build camaraderie. Fisher Phillips Regional Managing Partner, Alden J. Parker, will discuss the legal exposure an employer may face with betting or gambling, and how an employer can avoid related loss of productivity. We will also discuss other "maddening" behavior in the workplace from alcohol, tattoos, and piercings we well as how to address the changing laws regarding marijuana and e-cigarettes.

11:45 AM - 1:00 PM NCIFT Luncheon: Innovative Technologies for Upcycling Byproducts and Reducing Food Loss
Professor Zhang will present new technologies that utilize microbes as power houses for food, biomaterial and bioenergy production. Novel myco-protein foods are produced from almond hulls. Biodegradable plastics are produced from cheese whey permeate. Biogas energy is produced from food waster. She will also present new technologies for early detection and control of insect pests for reducing food loss.
